Window repairs in Glasgow
Not every window problem needs a new window. Handles, hinges, locks and seals are all replaceable parts, and swapping one is a fraction of the cost of a replacement.
The mechanisms inside a uPVC window are consumables. Friction hinges wear, gearboxes fail, handles snap, and the rubber gaskets that keep draughts out go hard and shrink after fifteen or twenty years. All of that is fixable without touching the frame or the glass.
It is worth saying plainly: a window that sticks, whistles or will not lock is usually a twenty minute job with the right part. If someone has quoted you for a full replacement on the back of a broken handle, get a second opinion.
Signs you need this
- Handle snapped, loose or spinning without engaging
- Window will not lock, or the key will not turn
- Hinges seized, dropped or the sash catching on the frame
- Draught coming through a closed window
- Trickle vent broken or whistling in wind
How the job runs
- 1Identify the part
Most uPVC hardware is a standard pattern once you know what you are looking at. We identify it on site.
- 2Source it
Common handles, hinges and gearboxes we carry. Anything unusual is ordered in.
- 3Fit and adjust
The part goes in and the window is adjusted so it closes and locks cleanly rather than being forced.
What it costs
Repairs are priced per job and are almost always far less than replacement. If a repair is not worth doing on an old frame, we will say so rather than take the money twice.

Is it worth repairing a twenty year old window?
Often yes, if the frame and glass are sound. A new gearbox on a good frame buys you years. If the frame itself has gone, that is a different conversation and we will be straight about it.
My window will not lock, is that urgent?
It is a security issue, so treat it as one. Ring us rather than waiting for a form reply.
Can you stop a draught without replacing the window?
Usually. Perished gaskets and misaligned sashes cause most draughts, and both are adjustable or replaceable.
